Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who writes the Ebian Column?

The Ebian Korean Medicine Clinic columns are written by Founder & Medical Director Yeeun Min and Drs. Myoungeun Kim and Nahyun Kim. When a doctor's name appears on a post, that doctor wrote it.

Where can I read the columns?

You can read them on the blog. Pressing the "View Columns" button on this page takes you to the list of posts.

What conditions do the columns cover?

They cover tinnitus and hearing loss, facial palsy and its sequelae, dizziness (including Ménière's disease and BPPV), and rhinitis and sinusitis — the same range of ear, nose, and facial symptoms treated at our clinic.

Do the columns include treatment reviews or before-and-after photos?

No. Recovery varies with the cause, how long the condition has lasted, and your current state, so another person's progress does not indicate your own result.

Can I judge my own symptoms after reading a column?

The columns are general information and do not replace a diagnosis. What needs to be checked depends on when your symptoms started and in what situations they get worse, so it is more accurate to have them checked through an examination.

Will I receive exactly the same treatment described in a column?

The treatment plan is set individually according to the condition, time of onset, test results, severity of symptoms, and response to treatment. We do not apply every treatment uniformly.

Why are treatment costs not listed in the columns?

The examinations and treatments differ depending on your condition. After reviewing your test results and making a treatment plan, we explain costs during the consultation.

May I ask about what I read in a column during my visit?

Yes. Please mention it, and we will explain it together with your test results. When we change your treatment plan, we also explain what we are changing and why during the visit.

Are the study results in the columns treatment results of Ebian Korean Medicine Clinic?

No. The studies quoted in the columns were conducted by other institutions and are not data from our patients. We list the journal and year whenever we cite them.

I am being treated at another clinic. Can I follow what the column says?

As a rule, we advise you to complete the initial medication as scheduled by the clinic that prescribed it. Later treatment plans are decided together during your visit.

I read a column and am not sure whether I should be seen right away

If you have a severe headache, double vision, difficulty walking, paralysis of an arm and leg on one side, slurred speech, persistent vomiting, or a change in consciousness, please go to the emergency room or see a neurologist first. In other cases, please call us and we will advise you.

What does "treatment published in a paper" mean?

It means that findings confirmed through research were published in an academic journal. However, it does not mean the results reported in a study will appear the same way in each patient. The actual treatment plan is set individually through examination and consultation.

Is it true that Korean medicine works better for long-standing conditions?

It is hard to say one is better based on duration alone. In the acute stage, when hearing suddenly drops or the face becomes paralyzed, identifying the cause and initial medication come first. Even in long-standing cases, we check the remaining function and degree of damage through tests and then explain what is possible.

Where can I find explanations by condition other than the columns?

The Tinnitus & Hearing Loss and Facial Palsy pages summarize the definitions, types, and course of these conditions. Where to go first when you have symptoms is covered on the FAQ page of the Condition Guide.

For tinnitus, should I go to an ENT clinic or a Korean medicine clinic first?

If your hearing has suddenly dropped in the acute stage of sudden hearing loss, we advise getting a hearing test and initial medication at an ENT clinic first or at the same time. The two treatments do not exclude each other and can be combined depending on your condition; which comes first depends on when the symptoms started and what they are.

Tests at a university hospital found nothing wrong. Where should I go?

Even if no abnormality is found in tests, if you have symptoms, the cause can be examined from a different angle. We refer to your previous test records, check your current state with additional tests, and then set the treatment direction. However, if hearing in one ear keeps getting worse or neurological symptoms are present, we will refer you for detailed testing again.

Is treatment going well even if the tinnitus has not completely disappeared?

In tinnitus treatment, we consider not only changes in the sound but also improvements in daily life — sleep, concentration, anxiety, and ear discomfort — as important indicators of recovery. These changes often appear first during treatment, and recovery can then be expected in the direction of reduced intensity and frequency of symptoms.

Are larger hospitals better for ear conditions?

What needs to be checked first differs by condition and timing, so it is hard to say one is better. In the acute stage — when hearing suddenly drops or the face becomes paralyzed — or when severe dizziness comes with neurological symptoms, we recommend getting ENT and neurological tests first. Our clinic's role is stage-by-stage treatment after the cause has been identified, and we set the treatment direction by combining the test results.
